The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has received a ‘No Objection’ from the Ministry of Finance to contract a loan from the Fidelity Bank Ghana Limited for the completion of the Krofrom Market project.

Consequently, the Consultant, Avangarde Design Services has met the contractors and they will soon get back to project site.

“It is with a big sigh of relief that I report on the status of the infamous Krofrom Market project,” Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), said, describing the latest development as very encouraging given the long delay in completing the project.

The project had stalled for almost a decade now due to inadequate funds.
The MCE, who was addressing the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Seventh Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), disclosed that some Chinese investors had also expressed the desire to undertake the construction of an ultra-modern world class hotel complex and international convention centre in Kumasi.

The Assembly, he explained, was, therefore, in the process of finding suitable land for the proposed project.

The Seventh Assembly was briefed on various development projects, programmes and policies undertaken by the KMA in 2018 to improve the living conditions of the people, as well as challenges.

The Assembly’s development agenda for 2019 was also laid bare before the Assembly, encompassing socio-economic development, environment, infrastructure and human settlement, governance, corruption and public accountability.

On Roads, Mr. Assibey-Antwi indicated that a total amount of 5, 663, 000 Ghana Cedis and 8, 000, 003 were allocated for both routine and periodic maintenance works, respectively, for the year under review.

During the period, a total of 15, 247 metres square of pothole area was patched within the various locations in the metropolis.
Additionally, 10 kilometres of roads within the metropolis were also resealed.

The MCE, touching on transport, hinted that the KMA’s Transport Department in the year under review was selected as the pilot office for the implementation of the Smart Cities/Smart Office Concept of the Ghana Investment Fund for the Electronic Communications (GIFEC) under the Ministry of Communication.

“The Assembly is currently taking steps for the smooth implementation of this project,” he stated.
