UNFORTUNATE ATTACK ON DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE (DCE) OF AFIGYA KWABRE SOUTH HON. ADU POKU CHRISTIAN.
We the members of Kwabre West Development Forum (KWADEF), have learnt with dismay the unwarranted assault meted out to Hon Adu Poku Christian (DCE of AFIGYA Kwabre South District) on Tuesday 31st March, 2020 at Atimatim Taabuom for simply appealing to a Police Officer by name Inspector Robert to adhere to His Excellency the President’s request to Ghanaians to observe social distancing to help eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic.
The questions we want to ask are;
1. Is it a crime to ask a police officer a question most especially when it is coming from no ordinary person than a District Chief Officer who represents the President at the District and therefore assist with the implement of government policies with the help of the police?
2. Do policemen have the powers to assault to the extent of pulling AK 47 assault raffle to threaten the life of a DCE for no provocation and go scout free?
3. Why did the police Officers brutalize and seize the Video recorder of the journalist who accompanied the DCE, if they believed what they were doing was right?
We the members of KWADEF are very angry about this uncouth and unprofessional attitude of the Police officer who should have known better and separated people who were in the Police pickup to prevent the spread of the corona virus he has been sent out there to prevent.
We are aware of the fact that the unwarranted behaviour has been reported to the able Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah.
Honourable, we trust your leadership qualities and therefore expect your expedite action within one week to ensure Inspector Robert is brought to book to serve as deterrent onto others and also prevent possible demonstration from our angry members.
