Shamies Foundation Marks Two Years Anniversary, Storms 9 States With Reliefs For Prison Inmates, Less Privileged
A Non-Governmental Organization which dedicated to bettering the lives of inmates of correctional facilities in the country and to bringing succour to less privileged children, men and women in Nigeria has kicked off a campaign tagged BREAKING CHAINS 2.0.
The organization which is also marking its secondary year anniversary as well as the the birthday of its founder Ms Saratu Abdul would be visiting nine correction centres across the country namely; Lagos, Benue , Delta, Sokoto, Kebbi, FCT, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Plateau states.
The Director of Programs, Shamies Unusual Hearts Foundation, Mr Shedrach Oka made this revelation yesterday in a chat with media men.
Mr.Oka said that the aim of Shamies Unusual Hearts Foundation visit to the correctional centres was to bring hope and relief to inmates.
To this end, the Foundation would offset fines of inmates with minor offences, train inmates with different skills and equip them with the basic skills and tools they need so that they can be fully reintegrated into the the society and become useful
According to Mr. Shedrach Oka, the Founder’s Day is a Legacy Project designed to communicate the ideals of Ms. Saratu Abdul to people who comes after her. According to him, the Founder’s Day project brings her life, her philosophy, and her ideology of living to the surface; thereby showcasing the perspective of what is most important about her life.
The Director of programs revealed that to herald the second anniversary of the Foundation the management team of Unusual Hearts would visit stakeholders of correction centres and also hold consultations with organizations with the sole aim of fashioning out ways in which inmates lives cab be bettered so that they don’t go back to the past when they are eventually released.
He also added that the organization is also committed to helping not only inmates but helping the less privileged in the society .
He added that the organization had been involved humanitarian services for the past two years and it is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission , CAC
