The bill to establish the Nigerian Civil Defence Academy in Pangori in Niger State which was Sponsored by Senator Musa Mohammed Sani, has passed the second reading at the nation’s upper house at the National Assembly, Abuja .
Senator Sani who is representing Niger East Senatorial District said that the academy will serve as an institution of high level manpower development, with the capacity to train civil defence officers in order acquire and attain the highest standards of professionalism and award such certificate as may be approved by the relevant academic body.
The lawmaker also explained that since the civil defence corps does not have a recognised and legally backed academic institution it is necessary for an Institution of higher learning for the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps be established so as to address the anomaly
The bill by Senator Sani received tremendous support other senators namely Smart Adeyemi of Kogi, Rochas Of Imo and Emmanuel Bwacha of Taraba
These senators hailed the introduction of the bill as a welcome development and a step in the right direction
Another boost for Senator Sani’s bill also came from Ahmed Lawan, President of the Senate .
Lawan praised Sani for deeming it fit to introduce such a bill and said it would go along way to addressing both the security and unemployment challenges faced by the nation .
The bill was finally referred to the Committee on Interior for deliberation, afterwards which it shall be forwarded to back to the general House next week
