The National Union of Ghana Students ( NUGS) wishes to unequivocally condemn recent clashes in the University of Education Winneba (UEW), leading to the destruction of life and property. This we understand was sparked by several attempts by the management of the University to suppress the will of students at the institution.
The recent of such instances is the dismissal of Dr. Duku together with some other hardworking lecturers, which had the blessings of the Vice Chancellor.
We are saddened by these actions which seek to sacrifice the future of several Ghanaian students on the altar of partisan politics since this is having emotional and psychological effects on our members in the UEW.
We wish to admonish the management of the institution to rise above their political interests and affiliations and apply the right tenets of leadership in their work.
We also urge the politicians marring the future of these students by their involvement in the affairs of the school to desist from such acts and allow the school to be run by the powers that be.
Finally, we urge the Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to urgently meet the feuding factions and restore academic life back to normalcy.
