Manchester City Looking To Make A Swoop For 19 Y/O Ligue 1 Star: Should Pep Make It Happen?

Latest reports claim that Manchester City have a more than optimal chance of landing the French prodigy, Kylian Mbappe next summer. Paris Saint-Germain are currently being investigated over Financial Fair Play regulations and that could prevent the 19-year-old from making the £167m switch to the Parc des Princes following this season.

Mbappe is only playing for the Ligue 1 giants because of the agreement PSG have in place with his parent club, AS Monaco. In hindsight, PSG forced officials to look under their hood because of the record-breaking £198m transfer move they made for Neymar ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Pep Guardiola wants to bolster the City squad further and the Mbappe transfer seems more than likely at the moment. If you have witnessed the season with both Mbappe and Neymar in the same team, the picture will become even clearer to you.

Yes the Frenchman has put up remarkable stat-line of 19 goals and 17 assists this season alongside two scoring mammoths in Edinson Cavani and Neymar but it is not the best of what he can produce. Countless times, Mbappe has been reduced to a third option in the PSG attack with the Brazilian superstar dominating possession and the best chances falling to Cavani.

The latter cannot be blamed for doing his job but the tension between the teenager and the former-Barcelona winger is translucent. Even reports came out earlier in the season stating Neymar’s wishes to be the only star player in the PSG squad and for the club to do away with his final-third partner.

We have seen countless times this season, Mbappe getting into good scoring positions inside the box only to be denied by Neymar with an easy layoff. The first leg against Real Madrid was the best example along with the 0-1 win over Toulouse in early February.

PSG are trying to build a formidable team on the European stage and for that will need some of the world’s best footballers. They already have that in Neymar and it is a shame that he cannot coexist with such an exceptional talent as Mbappe.

Maybe time and a different coach than Unai Emery could make the duo click in the near future but that is an uncertain possibility. Something tells me that Mbappe will be an even better fit Pep Guardiola’s City squad and can wreak havoc in the Premier League.

If anything it is not like he gambling his future with a team any less talented or capable of success in the European stage.
