MANSO SEI KURO
Chieftaincy is a sacred institution bestowed on us by our ancestors and that as custodians of our traditions, culture and values and as such Chiefs and Queen Mothers are given much respect and dignity that they deserve.
Rulers “Chiefs and Queens” in Ghana is considered prestigious and in some cases is associated with wealth which make many people aspire to the position.
Unfortunately, sometimes, people of questionable character succeed in becoming rulers and do not rule justly.
These people sometimes pursuit of their selfish interests, have become the emblem of land litigation by indulging in indiscriminate sale of lands, forgetting that they are the custodians of the land and not owners.
It must be recognized that disputes and litigation of any kind render both the victor and the vanquished wretched.
However, litigations create impression to other members of the community that the litigants are protecting their interest and rights.
The fears become even greater when the dispute is between two ruling areas (Queen and Chief, Chief and Abusuapanyin & Queen and Abusuapanyin ) and the vice versa.
Any of the litigants sometimes impose rules and levies usually very high and the citizens would have no choice, some even go to the extend of borrowing at high interest rate, disposing off valuable properties, mortgaging properties at prices far below their face value, just to support dispute.
Ironically, the object in dispute even in victory would be worthless as compared with the huge sums of money and sometime lifes and properties destroyed during the litigation or the dispute.
Some people become litigation contractors by fueling both sides just to have advantage of exploiting properties which is meant for the whole community.
Disputes and litigations plunge towns into chaos and stifle development and progress since certain projects and programmes cannot be carried out in an atmosphere of tension and hostility.
It is very sad to state that these acts of vandalism, atrocities, wanton destruction of properties, arson and killings emanating from these disputes affect the vulnerable in society – women and children greatest.
Their husbands are either killed or run away while the women and children become the victims and live in abject poverty, dejection and displaced.
“A town, village or a community may produce a President for the Nation but will still lack development when there is chieftaincy dispute”
“A town, village or a community may produce the National Chief Imam but will not hear the real voice of Allah if there is chieftaincy dispute”
“A town, village or a community may produce the Pope to the whole nation but will never feel the miracle of the Almighty God if there is chieftaincy dispute”
“A town, village or community may produce the “Okomfo Anokye” but will never taste the Oracles”. because
Chiefs and Queen mothers are involved in mobilizing the people for the execution of developmental projects, sensitizing people to health hazards, promoting education, preaching discipline, encouraging various economic enterprises within the communities, inspiring respect for law and order and above all lobbying for projects from government.
I will humbly end by quoting the Holy Bible Mark 3:24-27 which reads ” If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand, if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand and if he rises up against himself and be divided, he cannot stand, but have an end. No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house”.
Thank You Very Much.
