The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has revealed that the Ghana Education Service(GES) is taking a second look at the ban on the use of electronic devices like mobile phones among others, particularly in Senior High Schools.
According to him, the GES is currently reviewing its policies to guide the use of digital devices since students in the Junior and Senior High Schools (SHS) everywhere in the country are prohibited to use their digital devices including mobile phones to schools.
Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum speaking in an interview with Accra based Joy FM noted that the advantages in the use of electronic devices in teaching and learning are immense, adding that people are fast adapting and improving.
The Minister said in this modern era technology has been the best and fastest alternative to the old fashion way of information exchange, he added that in the view of school of thought, it believes it’s essential to permit students to come along to school with their smartphones to enhance teaching and learning.
He continued that the outbreak of the coronavirus has also created a platform to discuss the need to authorize students, particularly in Senior High Schools to use phones while in school because of its aids in the learning process.
As to if students will be permitted to use phones in school after the fight against the novel coronavirus, Dr. Adutwum said the Ghana Education Service is reviewing its protocols which include “bringing your own Service(
