Chemico Ltd will on Thursday 28, November 2019 roll-out its grand CSR initiative dubbed: The Chemico Cocoa Farmers Outreach and Mini-Fair in Wassa – Akropong, Western-North Region.
The social intervention initiative spearheaded by the Cocoa Health and Extension Division of COCOBOD (CHED) aims to promote preventive healthcare among cocoa farmers.
Expressing delight at the opportunity to give back to farmers in the region, Kwame Obeng Agyina, Technical Consultant at Chemico ltd said: “This project is a demonstration of our renewed commitment to our farmer- clients. For us, the relationship with the farmer is more than the regular seller-buyer relationship. We see the farmer-client base as our partners for progress, hence the decision to partner CHED to rollout a social intervention module that we hope to replicate elsewhere in the years ahead.”
The project is structured as a free health screening cum mini fair. While the screening exercise will focus on examining the health status of some 4,000 farmers, a mini fair designed to give sponsors an opportunity to exhibit their products and promote adherence to proper input application will also take place simultaneously.
The project will also explore a wide range of issues, including, market linkages, financing, best practices in agrochemical use, impact of climate change on the environment ,impact of negative farming practices, focused training and capacity building sessions.
Hifarm and Agro Machinery Limited
In demonstration of its commitment to the project, Hifarm and Agro machinery ltd has absorbed the cost for the medicines to be distributed to beneficiary farmers through its parent company, Pharmanova ltd.
As part of the event, the firm will introduce its specialized powertrac tractors from india and allied machinery to participating farmers.
Pharmmanova representatives will also sensitize farmers on the importance of preventive healthcare to their wellbeing.The company’s efficacious headline products like Eralina Intimate Hygiene Solution, Moods range of Condoms, Diclonova and Novamol will be made available to beneficiary farmers free of charge.
The cocoa sector is a significant area that provides sustainable jobs and food for millions of Ghanaians. Over the years, however, climate inspired challenges coupled with poor management on the part of farmers have led to a myriad of challenges for the sector. The project therefore seeks to rapidly improve the health of cocoa farmers and consequently improve their capacity for better performance.
